Speaking in Parliament on Thursday (March 5) during the committee of supply debates, Senior Minister of State for Health Lam Pin Min announced new polyclinics at Bidadari and Bishan.
In response to Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Chong Kee Hiong's feedback and Member of Parliament for Potong Pasir SMC Sitoh Yih Pin's suggestion about building new polyclinics in Bishan and Bidadari, Lam revealed plans to develop a polyclinic in both these areas by 2030.
The two new polyclinics will offer similar services to existing ones, including medical treatment for acute conditions, chronic disease management, women’s and children’s health services, and radiological, laboratory and pharmacy services.
This will fulfil the goal of having 32 polyclinics by 2030.
Health Minister Gan Kim Yong also announced the redevelopment of Alexandra Hospital.
The first phase is expected to be completed by 2030.
NUHS will design new care models and test them at Alexandra Hospital.
Gan had also touched on Singapore's increasing healthcare expenditure. This will only grow due to the development cost of building new facilities, as well as the operating cost of these facilities.
Overall, Singapore's National Health Expenditure increased from $13 billion in 2012 to $22 billion in 2017.
