The 12th edition of Pink Dot will not be held at Hong Lim Park on Jun. 27, 2020 over Covid-19 concerns, Pink Dot SG announced on Facebook on Mar. 16.

Livestream programme to replace physical event

Instead, the physical event will be replaced with a livestream programme on the same day at 6.30pm, consisting of performances and interactive discussions.

The group added that this decision had been done as the health and safety of the LGBT community and Singaporeans are its priority.

Supporters encouraged to light up their homes and private workspaces

Pink Dot SG added that supporters of the event will still have an opportunity to show their support through lighting up their homes and private workspaces.

It added that the lights will "serve as a reminder that support for LGBTQ rights and the Freedom to Love must persevere even as we are unable to gather at Hong Lim Park".

Meanwhile, details of the livestream programme will be announced at a later date.

Here is Pink Dot SG's announcement in full:

"PINK DOT 12: COVID-19 UPDATE

The health and safety of our community and all Singaporeans are our foremost priority. As such, for the first time in our 12-year history, Pink Dot will not take place physically at Hong Lim Park.

But take heart - supporters of Pink Dot will still have a way to mark the occasion. We call upon everyone to stand with us by lighting up your homes and workplaces (private spaces only please!) PINK, and spend time with your friends and family on June 27.

Your pink lights will be a powerful display of love and solidarity for LGBTQ people in Singapore. They will also serve as a reminder that support for LGBTQ rights and the Freedom to Love must persevere even as we are unable to gather at Hong Lim Park.

In addition, we invite everyone to tune-in to our special livestream programme at 6:30pm on June 27. One can expect a meaningful line-up of performances and interactive discussions that will keep you and your loved-ones entertained and engaged. Details of the programme will be released at a later date.

We hope that the spirit of Pink Dot 12 will continue to shine through from our homes, our workplaces, and our hearts."
