The Covid-19 global outbreak has driven people around the world mad.

Panic buying became a norm in some countries.

And in one extreme case, three women in Australia were caught on video fighting over toilet paper.

Two of them were later charged by local police.

Panic buying started in Penang after suspected case announced

Now, people in Penang have joined the trend.

It all started after the state announced a suspected case of Covid-19 on Mar. 9.

Within the same day, Facebook user Carmen Thum posted pictures of loaded trolleys in a supermarket in Penang.

First confirmed case in Penang announced on Mar. 10

However, things took a turn for the worse the next day when a confirmed Covid-19 case was reported.

According to New Straits Times, the patient is an employee of American data communications and telecommunications equipment provider Motorola Solutions.

After visiting Kuala Lumpur and developing flu-like symptoms, he apparently still had to return to work in Penang.

Panic buying situation worsened and toilet paper sold out quickly

News of the confirmed case sparked panic and fear among Penangites.

On Mar. 10, the panic buying situation worsened, as shelves in supermarkets were completely wiped clean.

Oriental Daily reported that biscuits and instant noodles were flying off the shelves at supermarkets.

But one of the main items that quickly sold out were toilet paper rolls.

In a separate situation, Twitter user Jeremy Clark uploaded a picture of an empty departure hall at Penang International Airport on Mar. 11.

Tough times, indeed.
