NTU to offer temporary housing to students & staff residing in M'sia during lockdown

Malaysians will be barred from leaving the country during the lockdown from March 18, 2020 to March 31, 2020.

Malaysia announced on Mar. 16 that it will be enforcing emergency lockdown measures throughout the country from Mar. 18 to Mar. 31, and all Malaysians will be barred from travelling abroad as part of the measures taken.

NTU offering temporary housing to students & employees

In response to this sudden announcement, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) will be offering temporary housing to all NTU students and employees residing in Malaysia and commuting to Singapore during the lockdown period in Malaysia.

The response by NTU was made on Mar. 17, hours after Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the lockdown of the country.

In an email sent to students and employees on Mar. 17, NTU shared that they were putting out this measure to ensure that students and employees are able to continue their studies and work as usual.

Malaysia announces 2-week national lockdown

During the two-week lockdown, all Malaysians will be barred from leaving the country.

Muhyiddin also stated during the national address that all Malaysians returning to Malaysia must undergo self-quarantine for 14 days.

All tourists and foreign visitors coming into Malaysia are barred.

All childcare centres, schools and tertiary education institutes will close.

Government facilities providing essential services will remain open, such as pharmacies, power plants, telecommunications and transportation facilities.
