Myanmar reports first 2 Covid-19 cases

Both imported cases.

Myanmar has reported its first two confirmed cases of Covid-19.

According to the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS), the first two cases were confirmed on March 23, 11pm in Chin state and Yangon regions.

Both infected patients are now isolated in hospital.

One of them is a 36-year-old Myanmar national who has travel history from the United States.

Prior to being confirmed positive, he had a high fever for a few days in Chin state.

The other patient is a 26-year-old Myanmar national who arrived from the United Kingdom on March 22.

He was quarantined in Yangon prior to being tested positive.

The people in Myanmar reportedly launched into panic buying at supermarkets soon after the first cases were made public on March 23 night.

Covid-19 has now infected close to 400,000 people in the world and claimed over 16,000 lives.

Singapore reported 54 new cases on March 23, bringing the total to 509 as of March 23.
