Arsenal released a statement earlier this week announcing that some of their staff and players will "self-isolate".

This was because some of the personnel had met Coid-19 positive Evangelos Marinakis, who owns Greek club Olympiakos, during their Europa League match with Olympiakos.

While it is uncertain if the meeting with Marinakis is the where the infection stems from, head coach Mikel Arteta, 37, has become the first Covid-19 case in Arsenal.

In the recent statement by the North London club, Arteta received a positive Covid-19 result in the evening.

Arsenal personnel who had recent close contact with Mikel will now self-isolate in line with Government health guidelines.

This includes the full first-team squad and coaching staff, as well as a smaller number of people from their Hale End Academy which they have also temporarily closed as a precaution.

Arteta is said to be disappointed, but in good spirits.

"I took the test after feeling poorly. I will be at work as soon as I'm allowed, he said, according to the BBC.
