The junior health minister of the United Kingdom, Nadine Dorries, 62, has been diagnosed with Covid-19, according to the BBC.

She has become the first British member of parliament to test positive.

Dorries, who began her career as a nurse, said she has been self-isolating at home since Friday, March 6.

The Department of Health said Dorries first showed symptoms on Thursday, March 5.

It was the same day she attended an International Women's Day event where British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his fiancee Carrie Symonds were present, the The Guardian reported.

Bloomberg also reported that she had voted and spoken in the Parliament within the past week, meaning that she was more than likely to be in close contact with hundreds of MPs.

Covid-19 has resulted in six deaths in the UK, which has a total of 456 confirmed cases.

Health Minister: She did "the right thing by self isolating at home"

UK health minister, Matt Hancock, tweeted that he was "really sorry" to hear of Dorries' diagnosis.

Hancock added that she has done the right thing by self-isolating at home.

Dorries disturbed by tabloid

Dorries is currently staying at home with her 84-year-old mum, who is coughing.

Unfortunately, Dorries is not having a restful day.

A Daily Mail tabloid journalist had opened her house gate, knocked on the door and rang the bell.
