On Mar. 16, Malaysia announced a lockdown that would last for two weeks, from Mar. 18 - 31, 2020.

The measure was undertaken in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19.

All reservations cancelled

On Mar. 17, Genting Highlands announced that they would be closed during the same period, in accordance with the movement control order.

The mountaintop destination, with casinos, theme parks, as well as food, retail, and entertainment options, is popular with both Malaysians and Singaporeans.

In a longer notice on their site, Genting elabroated that the following will not be available:

  • Hotel facilities
  • Food & beverage outlets
  • Casino
  • Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park
  • Entertainment facilities
  • Attractions
  • Shopping malls and retail outlets

However, essential resort-based services such as security, bomba, utilities and clinics will remain operational, they added.

Reservations for shows, hotel stays, and attractions are cancelled. Guests may seek a refund or change their reservation dates.

Since its closure, photos of the eerily empty destination has been uploaded by another Facebook page, Genting Highland.
