S'pore man, 52, & woman, 48 arrested for shopping with another person's credit card

The police would like to remind everyone that this is a serious offence.

A 52-year-old man and 48-year-old woman were arrested on Mar. 9, 2020 by the Singapore Police for making unauthorised transactions on another person's credit card.

Up to 10 years' jail

In a release on Mar. 9, the police stated that they received the victim's report on Feb. 27.

Several purchases had been made on the card, which was missing from the victim's possession.

The Commercial Affairs Department managed to establish the identities of the duo through investigations, and subsequently arrested the alleged perpetrators.

The man is believed to have found the victim's credit card, and afterwards used it to make retail purchases amounting to more than S$1,700.

He had allegedly bought two mobile devices and a store valued card, which were eventually seized by the police.

The duo will be charged in court on Mar. 10 with abetment by conspiracy to cheat.

If found guilty, they will be liable to a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.

What to do if your credit card is lost or stolen

If you credit card is missing, the police advises all credit/debit card holders to call their card issuing banks immediately.

To prevent unauthorised use, you can:

  • Opt for an SMS notification to be sent to your mobile phone for any charges incurred on your credit/debit card.
  • Check bank statements and alert the bank immediately should there be any discrepancies or fraudulent charges.
