On Mar. 4, New Zealand's Ministry of Health confirmed its second case of Covid-19 in the country - a New Zealand woman who transited in Singapore on her way back home from Northern Italy.

2nd confirmed case was in Singapore for transit flight

When the woman, who is in her 30s, arrived back in New Zealand, she developed symptoms and visited two medical centres in the days before her diagnosis was confirmed, Stuff reports.

At around 6pm on Mar. 3, her test results were formally reported to the Ministry of Health.

That was when health authorities notified the woman and her family, and began the contact tracing process.

The woman is currently in self-isolation at home and is assisted with clinical support from public health and district health board staff.

The woman's immediate household members are also with her in self isolation while her partner, who displayed symptoms of the virus, is also being tested.

According to a spokesperson from Singapore's Ministry of Health, they are "working closely with the New Zealand Ministry of Health and the respective airlines" to "conduct contact tracing for the crew and flight passengers" who may have had contact with the woman while she was infectious.

Widespread community outbreak is expected to remain low

On Mar. 4, New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern took to Facebook to ensure citizens that Covid-19 "is something (the government) anticipated and planned for" and that its pandemic plan has "concrete measures to deal with viruses like this."

New Zealand's Ministry of Health has also maintained that chances of widespread community outbreak is "expected to remain low" and that they will continue to remain vigilant.

On Feb. 28, New Zealand confirmed its first Covid-19 case, while its third case was confirmed on Mar. 5.

There are now more than 90,000 cases of Covid-19 globally, with over 3,000 deaths.

Although the bulk of reported cases have been from China, there has been a recent spike in new cases from South Korea, Iran and Italy.
