From Mar. 17, Deliveroo will roll out a new feature that enables customers and riders to choose contact-free delivery when they order from the company's app and website.

Process of contact-free delivery

According to a media release from Deliveroo, here's how it works:

  1. At check-out, customers choose the 'Contact-free delivery' option.
  2. Riders will see this selected option in the order's delivery notes and make their way to the location.
  3. Upon letting the customer know they have arrived, riders will place their thermal bag open on the ground outside their door.
  4. Riders will then step back at least one metre and wait nearby for the customer to collect the food.

Free cancellations for riders and 'hardship fund'

In addition, riders are able to make orders contactless by letting customers know through the app before they arrive.

Riders who do not wish to make deliveries at a high risk area can also request to cancel any booked deliveries without penalty.

Deliveroo previously announced a ‘hardship fund’ for riders, so those who contract the Covid-19 virus or who have been instructed to be in isolation by a medical authority will be eligible for financial support.
