The World Health Organisation (WHO) has officially labelled Covid-19 as a pandemic.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, stated that they were working with many partners to mitigate the social and economic consequences of the pandemic.

He said: "WHO’s mandate is public health. But we’re working with many partners across all sectors to mitigate the social and economic consequences of this #COVID19 pandemic."

According to NPR, WHO announced that the Covid-19, which is in at least 114 countries and killed more than 4,000, is now officially a pandemic.

"This is the first pandemic caused by coronavirus,"

He, however, emphasised that people have to work together to contain the virus.

"There’s been so much attention on one word.

Let me give you some other words that matter much more, & that are much more actionable:

Prevention.

Preparedness.

Public health.

Political leadership.

And most of all, People"

Tedros had mentioned on Monday that the threat of a pandemic was very real.
