You might have already heard about an incident last night (Mar. 13) where someone set a fire outside a police post in Boon Keng.

A number of videos and photos taken by residents and witnesses have been making the rounds online, along with some speculation.

The police and Singapore Civil Defence Force were alerted to the incident at around 11:10pm and detained a 30-year-old man at the scene at Blk 105 Towner Road.

According to a news release, the police confirmed that the man was arrested for mischief by fire.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man set fire to a few bags of clothes using petrol or diesel in front of Kallang Neighbourhood Police Post (NPP) and smashed the glass door of the unmanned redesigned NPP.

The 30-year-old will be remanded for further investigations and the police will seek a court order to send him for psychiatric assessment.

Not an act of terrorism

The police added that while the man scribbled the words "ISIS" on the pillars and walls near the police post, preliminary investigations indicated that he acted alone and it was not terrorism-related.

The man will be charged in court on March 14 for mischief by fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.
