The people who work behind-the-scenes.

Healthcare workers in Singapore are being hailed by the public for their efforts this novel coronavirus outbreak season, despite some unjustified misgivings about nurses and unhelpful comments made ostracising them for taking public transport in their uniforms.

This large group of workers consisting of thousands of individuals, who keep hospitals humming along 24/7, frequently remain out of the limelight, and form a nameless and faceless entity that toils unglamorously in shifts, behind-the-scenes, round-the-clock.

After all, these personnel did not enter the profession for personal accolades or public praise.

However, appreciative gestures to boost their morale and serve as encouragement for their continued professionalism and personal sacrifice is not too far-fetched a concept.

Taking the lead to hail the staff working both at the front lines and the labyrinthine back office, Tan Tock Seng Hospital put up a post on Feb. 8 to show what takes place out of the public's view a lot of times.

Split-second glimpses of what happens day-to-day reveal the many staff toiling in sterile conditions, suiting up, putting their masks on, and going about their day with a steely preparedness that things could go south anytime.

TTSH wrote in its post:

Across departments, our doctors, nurses, housekeepers, security, pharmacists, colleagues in the linen department, kitchen, etc. are stepping up to the frontline in this fight against the virus. To all our #HealthcareHeroes we are with you.

Far from being a broad proclamation of victory over the disease, the post is an acknowledgement of the efforts of those who chose to remain in this line.
