Coronavirus: 50-year-old taxi driver with no links identified, visited 2 GP clinics 4 times before being confirmed

He went to two GP clinics four times between Feb. 3 and Feb. 13 before being referred to NUH.

Five new confirmed cases have been announced on Feb. 15, bringing the total number in Singapore to 72.

Along with the announcement, the Ministry of Health also provided updates on the confirmed cases announced on Feb. 14.

In particular, patient 64, who does not have any links to any existing patients, has been announced to be a 50-year-old male taxi driver.

Visited two GP clinic four times before visiting NUH

The 50-year-old Singaporean taxi driver has no recent travel history to China.

He first started experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus on Feb. 3, 2020.

He then sought treatment at two GP clinics four times, on Feb. 5, Feb. 7, Feb. 10, and Feb. 13.

On the fourth visit to the doctor on Feb. 13, he was referred to the National University Hospital's (NUH) emergency department.

He was confirmed with Covid-19 on Feb. 14, 2020.

Currently, he is warded in an isolation room at NUH.

He stays at Jurong West Street 81.

2nd taxi driver infected with Covid-19

The 50-year-old is the second taxi driver identified to be infected with Covid-19.

Patient 35 was also identified as a taxi driver and patient 37 is a private hire driver.

MOH is currently working with the Ministry of Transport to help taxi and private hire car drivers to protect themselves against the coronavirus.

For the general public, MOH said that the risk of infection from transient contact, such as on public transport or in public places, is assessed to be low.
