Singapore Armed Forces Captain Tan Baoshu, who was previously charged for his role in the death of NSF Corporal First Class (CFC) Dave Lee, has passed away on Feb. 13, Yahoo reported.

He was 31 years old.

A friend of Tan took to Facebook to share the news earlier today:

"Hope you are in a better place with Dave"

The late Lee's mother also put out a cryptic Facebook post on the day of Tan's passing saying that it is sad to have "lost two precious sons".

She also wrote that she hopes "(he) is in a better place with Dave".

Previously charged for role in causing Lee's death

Tan was the Officer Commanding of Support Company, 1st Guards Battalion at the time when Lee’s heat stroke occurred.

He was also the supervising officer of the fast march conducted on the morning of April 18.

Tan was charged with causing the death of Lee after he failed to evacuate the fallen soldier in a timely fashion and “disallowing the administration of the necessary treatment to CFC Lee, thereby causing the death of CFC Lee from heat stroke”.

Tan was charged on Oct. 31, 2018 with committing a rash act causing the death of Lee

Was given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal

On Feb. 5, Straits Times reported that Tan has been given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal.

This means that the charge is dropped but can be revived again subsequently.

An Attorney-General's Chamber spokesperson also told ST that Tan has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.

The late Lee's mother, Jasmine Yeo, told Today that she feels "truly sad for him" and "(chooses) to forgive)".

"It's not easy for (his family)," she added.

Yeo also mentioned that their family had visited Tan.

This is a separate Facebook post by Yeo on Feb. 6:

Tan is scheduled to be cremated on Monday at Mandai Crematorium.

Mothership.sg has reached out to Yeo for comment.
