South Korea reported another spike in Covid-19 cases on Feb. 27 morning as the total number of cases hit 1,595.

334 new cases, mostly from Daegu

According to Yonhap, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) reported a whopping 334 new cases in the morning update.

More than half came from the Shincheonji church, a branch of a religious sect in the city of Daegu.

The church became a source of mass infection after an elderly congregant, patient 31, attended church services twice despite feeling unwell.

In "full cooperation" with the government, the church leader has submitted the full list of over 200,000 congregants.

So far, more than 1,000 of them who have displayed respiratory symptoms have been tested for Covid-19.

As more church congregants complete the test for Covid-19, the health authorities are expecting more jumps in infections in the next few days.

Of the 334 new cases, 307 were from Daegu and another six have been reported from Seoul.

About 80 per cent of the infections in South Korea came from Dague as well as neighbouring North Gyeongsang province where a hospital cluster is situated at.
