Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung has addressed the latest Case 96 involving a Raffles Institution student confirmed with the Covid-19 infection on Feb. 27.

On MC since Feb. 21

In a Facebook post on the same day, Ong said that the Secondary 1 student, who is 12 years old, last attended school on Feb. 21.

He has been on medical leave since.

Ong also said that the student's case was linked to a family member, who is also infected.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) stated that the student is linked to Case 94, a 64-year-old female Singapore citizen who lived in the Jalan Jurong Kechil area.

According to Ong, the school's principal, Frederick Yeo, has spoken to the student, who is feeling well and in good spirits.

Ong also said that the school will be implementing a series of precautionary measures, including suspending school on Feb. 28 for thorough disinfection.

He apologised for the late notice, and asked for word of the temporary school closure to be spread to parents of RI students.

"Very considerate" student

Ong said it was good that the student was "very considerate", as he did not attend school when he felt unwell.

With the distancing measures previously implemented, Ong is confident that the exposure has been "significantly limited".

The education minister wished the student and his family a speedy recovery.
