Many local businesses and enterprises have been stepping up to play their part in the fight against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
NTUC distributing over 10,000 care packs to workers across industries
To show their support, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has been distributing, and will continue to distribute more than 10,000 care packs for workers who have been tirelessly working to keep Singapore safe and running smoothly.
These workers include cleaners, security officers, front line media crew, taxi and private hire drivers who signed up to provide point-to-point transport for healthcare workers, as well as healthcare workers themselves.
These care packs are customised for different workers.
For instance, care packs for healthcare workers contain a bottle of hand sanitiser, medicated oil, canned drinks, some snacks, a Tiger Balm muscle patch, foot and heel gel, a toothbrush, and body foam.
Other front line workers will receive useful gifts like thermometers, face masks, and disinfectants.
Over the next few weeks, care packs will be distributed to a cross-section of front line workers through different unions.
These care packs were put together by some 70 volunteers from across the Labour Movement's various communities over the past few weeks.
Packs for healthcare workers who have been shunned by members of public
The packs for healthcare workers, in particular, are part of efforts by the Healthcare Services Employees' Union (HSEU) to show their support for them in light of recent cases whereby healthcare workers were being shunned by members of the public.
On Feb. 25, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, together with Deputy Secretary-General Dr Koh Poh Koon and union leaders of HSEU, will personally deliver some of the care packs to Tan Tock Seng Hospital's front line staff.
