The National Environment Agency (NEA) has released an interim list of household products that contain the appropriate concentrations of active ingredients that are known to inactivate the coronaviruses.

The agency said that this list of products can be used to disinfect areas that are likely to be contaminated with the novel coronavirus.

"The product list is based on currently available data and active ingredients known to be effective against coronaviruses," said NEA.

NEA added that detergent and water is adequate for general precautionary cleaning.

Aside from the use of cleaning agents, you can also use steam and heat treatment to inactivate coronaviruses.

Before you use these products though, do remember to check the labels, use according to instruction, and be aware of potential hazards of each product, the agency cautioned.

"For disinfection of highly contaminated surfaces or material, avoid the use of spray, and allow appropriate time needed for disinfection (refer to product instruction). This product list should be read in conjunction with the Guidelines and Advisories issued by NEA with instruction and guidelines on how to conduct proper cleaning and disinfection of premises."
