Last week, we published an article looking into MedicalLex, a website allegedly based in the United States selling boxes of 50 masks at US$28.99 per box.
Both MedicalLex's website and the Facebook page (which appears to have since been deleted) were just a few days old, the glowing reviews and the people who allegedly left the reviews on the website also appeared elsewhere on the internet, and the photos of their quality service certificate and product were identical to those of another company.

Cancelled and refunded customers
A Mothership reader who told us via email that she had spent approximately S$420 on 10 boxes of masks from MedicalLex received an update from the company that her order has been cancelled.
She shared with us this email that they sent on Friday, Feb. 14:

The email claimed that the cancellation was due to "an unexpected delay of shipment which has heavily affected our delivery time".
The reader alerted us on Monday, Feb. 17 that she had received a full refund from the company.
Another Mothership reader who had made a purchase prior to our first article being published said that he emailed MedicalLex to cancel after realising it might be a scam.
He said that he received a refund after one to two emails checking about his reason for cancellation, and that it was "handled very professionally".
A number of people on Facebook also shared that they had received notification of cancellations of their orders and refunds:
