The first Malaysian to test positive for the Wuhan virus was in Singapore 18 days before his confirmed diagnosis.

According to Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH), this 42-year-old man, who is from the state of Selangor, was in Singapore for a week, from Jan. 16 to Jan. 23.

He attended a business meeting at Grand Hyatt Hotel, which was also attended by Chinese nationals.

According to Malaysian health authorities, the man showed symptoms on Jan. 29, six days after he left Singapore.

He then went to a private hospital to seek treatment for a fever and cough.

He was then referred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital on Feb. 2.

Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said lab results on Feb. 3 confirmed that the man had contracted the virus.

MOH's director of medical services Kenneth Mak said that Singapore has been cooperating bilaterally with Malaysian health authorities to conduct contact tracing.

Mak added:

“We understand that the particular risk exposure was quite some time ago...There is a possibility that many of the people that took part in this particular meeting may (not be) in Singapore anymore.”

It is not currently known where else the Malaysian man visited during his one-week stay in Singapore.
