Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to a fire in Choa Chu Kang on Feb. 14 at 1:30am.
Fire at Lorong Semangka
The fire broke out from piles of horticultural wastes at No. 131 Lorong Semangka, approximately the size of one football field and about four storeys high.
A total of seven emergency vehicles and 50 firefighters have been deployed. Five water jets are being used to bring the fire under control.
Hours of fire fighting
However, due to deep-seated piles, coupled with the abundance of dry vegetation and windy condition, the SCDF firefighters are still on the ground trying to put out the fire completely, a spokesperson confirmed.
The company's excavators were used to create physical gaps between materials that could burn to impede the spread of fire.
This is expected to be a prolonged firefighting operation.
