A Chinese national isolated at the National Centre of Infectious Diseases (NCID) as a suspect case for two nights has shared her experience in a video log.

Unwell during 14-day home quarantine

The patient, named Fan Zhao Han, had returned from the Henan province and was serving her 14-day quarantine at home. She said that she had inflamed tonsils, and also developed a cough during this period.  

Feeling worried, she went to a nearby GP clinic. Given her travel history and symptoms, the doctor immediately isolated her from other patients and called an ambulance which sent her to NCID.

She added that this shows how stringent the preventive measures in Singapore are.

Isolated at NCID for two nights

In the video, Fan showed that she had to register herself first and the medical workers at NCID were all covered in protection gear while tending to suspected cases.

She first took an X-ray, and the results did not show any abnormalities. She did not develop fever or any other symptoms.

However, since Henan was the third-most affected province in China and Fan developed throat discomfort, she had to be isolated in NCID for further observation.

During her hospitalisation, Fan had to undergo two rounds of nucleic acids test for Covid-19.

The test involves sticking a 10cm long cotton swab into the nostril which Fan described as really painful.

Fan was tested negative for both rounds and was discharged after staying at NCID for two nights.

The video that Fan took shows that the ward that she stayed at NCID was spacious.

She received some daily essential items that her friends brought for her.

Her daily meals were delivered through this container to avoid direct contact with others.

Fan had two slices of bread and a hot drink for the breakfast on the first day of hospitalisation.

Here's her lunch, which included rice with broccoli and prawns. She was also served soup and a serving of fruits for both lunch and dinner.

Fan mostly spent her time in the ward watching videos on her tablet. On top of the meals, she was also given medication.

While Fan felt physically fine, she shared that she was anxious while waiting for the test results. She added that she was thankful for the warmth she received from the friendly and caring medical workers at NCID.

Reminds others to not be afraid to see doctor

Along with the video, Fan said in her post that she hopes to remind friends in Singapore to not fear Covid-19, and to seek medical help if they are feeling unwell as that's the responsible thing to do.

Do not avoid seeking help or be afraid of hospital isolation, she adds, as the medical workers will give you warmth even if you are alone, and the Singapore government is paying the hospital bills.

She also expressed her appreciation towards all Covid-19 frontline workers.
