With the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, healthcare workers in Singapore are going through a particularly busy and tough time.

Healthcare workers getting shunned by society

And it doesn’t help that some of them are getting ostracised.

There have been a number of anecdotal tales of how nurses and paramedics in Singapore have faced prejudice in society.

Like these, for example:

In one incident, an ambulance driver couldn't even get his food as food stall owners were scared of serving him.

Four halal restaurants give food donations

In an effort to help them during this troubling period, four halal restaurants have decided to donate some food to the healthcare workers on Feb. 17 at Block 6 of Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

Berita Mediacorp reported that restaurants Rumah Makan Minang, Hjh Maimunah, Positano and Kinamaya gave away over 4,000 curry puffs, 250 samosas, 70 boxes of pasta and 60 packets of chicken rice to over 100 staff from SGH.

Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Health, Amrin Amin, was also there to help give away the food to the nurses and staff.

According to Berita Mediacorp, Amrin said that he is aware of the discrimination they had to face.

He also urged Singaporeans to show support to the frontline healthcare workers as they are playing an important part in Singapore's fight against the Covid-19.

Amrin said via Berita Mediacorp:

"Today, it is admirable to see Singaporeans united as one, supporting and encouraging one another in times of crisis. I am proud that our Malay entrepreneurs from Rumah Makan Minang, Hjh Maimunah, Positano and Kinamaya have spent their time and energies to make the SGH healthcare workers feel happy and appreciated."
