Coronavirus: 66 new cases on Japanese cruise ship, 136 in total

Largest group of infected patients outside China.

About 66 passengers aboard "Diamond Princess" cruise ship docked in Yokohama, Japan, have been tested positive for the novel coronavirus (2019-nCov) on Feb. 10.

Total confirmed cases hit 130

According to Japan Times, Japan's Health Ministry announced another 66 new cases of coronavirus identified on the cruise ship, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 136.

Earlier this month, a passenger disembarked the ship was tested positive in Hong Kong for the coronavirus which prompted a quarantine order on 3,700 passengers and crew members on board.

It has been nearly a week since the cruise ship was locked down and they will have to wait nine more days before they can leave the ship.

NHK added that some of the passengers are running of medications but the cruise ship operator said that they are working with the health authorities in Japan to distribute additional medication.

The Diamond Princess operator also promised to refund all passengers on the cruise ship their cruise fees as well as the costs of transportation and hotels used before and after the voyage.

Counselling service is also provided for passengers on the cruise ship.

"Diamond Princess" passengers can only leave the cruise ship on Feb. 19 but close contacts of the infected patients will have their quarantine period extended.

5 Singaporeans on Diamond Princess cruise ship

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) told Mothership on Feb. 7, 2020, that five of the passengers are Singaporeans.

MFA stated that all five have reported that they are physically well.

The Singapore Embassy in Tokyo is also in contact with the group to provide the necessary consular assistance.
