Coronavirus: 7 more confirmed cases in S'pore, 3 possible clusters identified

All have no recent travel history to China.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced seven more confirmed cases of coronavirus on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Singapore to 40.

Of these, five are linked to previous cases.

Among the new cases are a private hire car driver and a taxi driver. This is the second private hire driver to be infected.

Two of the new cases also attended the private business meeting at Grand Hyatt Singapore, which saw 109 attendees and four confirmed cases including foreigners — one Singaporean, one Malaysian, and two South Koreans.

Meanwhile, two other new cases are revealed to have worked at Yong Thai Hang medicine shop, where previously human-to-human transmission was identified.

Case 34

The 34th case of coronavirus in Singapore is a female Singapore citizen, aged 40. She has no recent travel history to China.

The woman worked at Yong Thai Hang, and is a close contact of cases 19 and 20. She stays at Sin Ming Road.

She was admitted to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) on Feb. 6 and is currently in isolation there.

She reported onset of symptoms on Jan. 27, and visited two GP clinics on Jan. 27 and Feb 1.

She was placed under home quarantine on Feb. 4

Case 35

The 35th case is a taxi driver—a 64-year-old male Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to China.

The man visited Bukit Merah Polyclinic on Jan. 31.

Prior to this, he stayed at his home at Henderson Crescent after he displayed symptoms on Jan. 30.

He left his house during this period to visit Redhill Market and a hawker centre at Bukit Merah for meals.

He is currently warded in an isolation room at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

Case 36

Case 36 is a 38 year-old female Singapore Permanent Resident with no recent travel history to China. However, she visited Johor Bahru from Jan. 25 to 28.

She attended the same private business meeting at Grand Hyatt Singapore from Jan. 20 to 22. as cases 30 and 39.

She also visited a family member at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH).

Prior to being warded in an isolation room at NCID, she stayed at Bukit Batok St 31.

Case 37

Case 37 is a private hire car driver — a 53 year-old male Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to China.

He stays at Jurong East St 32.

He reported onset of symptoms on Jan. 30, and visited two GP clinics on Feb. 1 and Feb. 3 respectively.

He was admitted to NTFGH on Feb. 6, and was transferred to NCID on Feb. 8.

He is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.

Case 38

Case 38 is a 52 year-old female Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to China.

She had visited The Life Church and Missions Singapore, of which has links to four other confirmed cases, as well as Marina Bay Sands, Chinatown and Plaza Singapura.

She had travelled by public transport and stays at Choa Chu Kang Ave 3.

She reported onset of symptoms on Feb. 3 and visited Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic on Feb. 4 and was admitted to NCID on Feb. 7.

Test results confirmed the infection the next day.

She is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.

Case 39

Case 39 is a 51 year-old male Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to China.

However, he had travelled to Malaysia from Jan. 23 to Feb. 2.

Similar to case 36, he attended the meeting at Grand Hyatt. He stays at Jurong West Central.

He reported onset of symptoms on Jan. 29, and had visited two GP clinics on Feb. 3 and 5 respectively.

He was admitted to NCID on Feb. 6 and is currently warded in an isolation room there.

Case 40

Case 40 is a 36-year-old male Singapore Citizen with no recent travel history to China.

He works at Yong Thai Hang, and was identified as a close contact of cases 19 and 20. He stays at Bedok North St.

He was placed under home quarantine on Feb. 4 and was admitted to NCID on Feb. 7. Tests confirmed the infection on Feb. 8.

He is currently warded in an isolation room at NCID.

MOH, with the help of the Singapore Police Force, has also identified three possible clusters:

  1. The Life Church and Missions Singapore (Cases 8, 9, 31, 33 and 38)
  2. Yong Thai Hang (Cases 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 28, 34 and 40)
  3. Grand Hyatt Singapore (Cases 30, 36 and 39)

Investigations are ongoing.
