He Yanfang is the head of the Jingzhou commerce bureau's market operation department.

His son is He Hao, who was in Tianmen at the time. He was serving out a 14-day quarantine.

The roads, like many roads in China, had been closed down to deal with the coronavirus.

Somehow the younger He managed to get back to Jingzhou and he detailed the journey in his Weibo account.

The Weibo post caption says "Tianmen, bye bye".

He also stated that while he never thought his father had much power as an official, this particular incident had changed his mind.

According to Chinese media, the car was actually planned to purchase supplies from Tianmen to Jingzhou, but the older He used his personal relations to make the car pick up his son as well.
