A 28-year-old man has been arrested for cheating S$175,000 from an online buyer.
According to a press release by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on Feb. 14, 2020, the man had been advertising the sales of surgical masks on Carousell.
On Feb. 14, the police received a report from a victim, who claimed that he was cheated by the the seller.
The alleged victim had handed over S$175,000 as deposit for a bulk order of 500 cartons of surgical face masks, intended to be distributed among company staff.
However, after receiving the sum, the Carouseller became uncontactable, and did not deliver the masks.
Through ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on the same day.
The man will be charged in court on Feb. 15 with Cheating.
If convicted, he will be liable to a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
