Update: MWC confirmed on Feb. 25 that Case 42 is the Bangladeshi worker who is in critical condition.
The family of a Bangladeshi worker infected with Covid-19 in Singapore will be receiving a S$10,000 assistance package courtesy of the Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC), the worker's employer (Yi-Ke Innovations), and his dormitory operator (Mini Environment Service).
The man, identified as Case 42, is a 39-year-old Bangladeshi who was diagnosed on Feb. 8. MWC confirmed that he is the worker who is in critical condition.
In a Feb. 24 Facebook post, the MWC wrote that it worked with government authorities, the High Commission of Bangladesh, the worker's employer, as well as the dormitory operator to provide support to Case 42 as well as other affected workers.
According to MWC, the worker is his family's sole breadwinner.
"We hope that the timely updates could offer them some comfort and solace during this period of time," wrote MWC.
This S$10,000 will be transferred to the worker's family in Bangladesh so that they can use it for urgent purchases or payments, day-to-day expenses and other financial needs.
"The MWC will continue to remain in close contact with his family to provide updates on his condition and offer additional help or assistance wherever necessary," it said.
The NGO added that it has been receiving messages from people who are keen to donate to help the migrant workers who are hospitalised:
"We would like to assure everyone that their welfare are being taken care of and they will receive the necessary help and assistance. In the event that their condition take a turn for the worse, the MWC may decide to hold a public fund-raising campaign – but at the moment, there is no need for such a measure."
However, if you wish to make a general donation to the migrant worker cause, the MWC accepts cheques or cash payments to the "Migrant Workers' Assistance Fund".
The donation can be made at the MWC Help Centre located at 579 Serangoon Road (map).
