The issue of masks have dominated the Singapore conversation for the past few weeks.
Whether it be the necessity of masks, the supply of masks, the shortage of masks, or the price of masks.
But one aspect of having a mask has seen slightly less media attention.
What happens after you use the mask?
For most, it's quite simple -- dispose of them in a proper manner.
Here are some who disagree with that answer.
Lilyn Wan posted these pictures on February 10, 2020. Here's the accompanying post.
"Dear Singapore - please STOP discarding your used masks on the ground. If you are concerned enough about the spread of the coronavirus that you are wearing a mask, it makes no sense to litter like this.
You are only increasing the chances of this thing getting out of control and increasing the risk to your own health. We can do better than this. We are better than this."
These photos were taken during a five minute interval along Tan Tock Seng Link, according to Wan.
Speaking to Mothership about the issue, Wan noted that the number of discarded used masks had increased by quite a bit during the last week.
She used to encounter around two to three. But now when she walks her dogs along the same area, that number can reach up to about a dozen discarded used masks, she said.
Another Mothership reader also took a picture of a discarded used mask at Yio Chu Kang.
Please don't do this, even if you have an excess of masks.
Because someone is going to have clean up after you, as observed by Wang herself. Which is gross in any given timeframe, but particularly now.
