Singapore police have arrested 13 men who were suspected of being involved in a rioting incident with deadly weapons at Choa Chu Kang.

Rioting at HDB carpark

The incident occurred on Feb. 27 at around 2:25pm.

Photos and videos of a group of men shouting and running across a HDB carpark were circulated on social media and via messaging apps.

The men were seen followed by heavily armed police donning heavy gear.

Whatsapp messages claimed that the incident happened at Teck Whye lane, but the police have specified in a press release that the riot took place at 10 Choa Chu Kang lane.

One of the men also appeared to have sustained a deep cut to his hand, videos of his bloody appendage showed.

Variety of weapons used

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Jurong Police Division identified the 13 men involved.

The men were subsequently arrested within 28 hours at several locations in Jalan Bukit Merah, West Coast Road, Yishun, Bukit Batok and Lower Kent Ridge Road.

The men are aged between 17 and 28.

During the incident, the men had armed themselves with deadly weapons including a knife, knuckle duster, a metal bar and a metal rod.

These weapons have been seized by the police.

Five of the 13 men will be charged in court on Feb. 29 with rioting with a deadly weapon.

This offence carries a punishment of jail for up to 10 years, and caning.

The remaining eight men will be charged in court on the same day with unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapon.

Those convicted of this offence will be jailed for up to five years, or caned, or fined, or be subjected to any combination of such punishments.

The Police said that they "do not tolerate such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law."
