MOH confirms 4th case of Wuhan virus in S'pore, isolated at Sengkang General Hospital

Prior to hospital admission, the patient stayed at Village Hotel Sentosa.

In an update on Jan. 26 at around 12:20am, the Ministry of Health announced that it has confirmed the fourth case of the novel coronavirus in Singapore.

Three confirmed cases were earlier announced on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24.

Fourth confirmed case isolated at Sengkang General Hospital

MOH said that it has confirmed the fourth case of the novel coronavirus infection at 10pm on Jan. 25, 2020.

The fourth confirmed case is a 36-year-old male Chinese national from Wuhan who arrived in Singapore with his family on Jan. 22.

He is currently warded in an isolation room at Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) and his condition is stable, MOH added.

The man was asymptomatic during the flight to Singapore but subsequently developed a cough on Jan. 23, 2020.

He was presented at SKH Emergency Department on Jan. 24 and was immediately isolated after being classified as a suspect case.

Subsequent test results confirmed Wuhan coronavirus infection at about 9:30pm on Jan. 25.

Prior to hospital admission, the case stayed at Village Hotel Sentosa.

MOH has initiated epidemiological investigations and contact tracing to identify individuals who had close contact with him.

Health advisory

Here are the precautions travellers and members of the public should take at all times:

  • Avoid contact with live animals including poultry and birds, and consumption of raw and undercooked meats;
  • Avoid crowded places and close contact with people who are unwell or showing symptoms of illness;
  • Observe good personal hygiene;
  • Practise frequent hand washing with soap (e.g. before handling food or eating, after going to toilet, or when hands are dirtied by respiratory secretions after coughing or sneezing);
  • Wear a mask if you have respiratory symptoms such as a cough or shortness of breath;
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue paper when coughing or sneezing, and dispose the soiled tissue paper in the rubbish bin immediately; and
  • Seek medical attention promptly if you are feeling unwell.
