A 44-year-old man living in Sengkang allegedly set himself on fire and eventually succumbed to his injuries after he was sent to the hospital.
According to the Chinese evening daily, Shin Min Daily News, the incident happened in a two-room flat unit at level four of Blk 351C Anchorvale Road on Jan. 28 past midnight.
According to Shin Min, a resident living on the sixth floor shared that her husband smelled pungent smoke coming from the unit where the fire broke out.
She said that the fire was raging and the window glass of the unit shattered as a result of the high temperature.
"It looked very dangerous," she added.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed with Mothership that they were alerted to the case at around 4:20am on Jan. 28.
After gaining access into the unit, they used one water jet to extinguished the fire which engulfed the contents of a bedroom.

Another resident told the reporter that SCDF also evacuated over 20 residents when they arrived to attend to the incident.
The man was conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital via an ambulance subsequently.
Shin Min reported that the 44-year-old man was the unit owner and was living in the unit with a woman. The report also alleged that the 44-year-old set himself on fire deliberately.
Some residents also witnessed paramedics trying to resuscitate the victim after rescuing him from the fire.
After being conveyed to SKH, he reportedly died from serious burn injuries.
