Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) camps on Pulau Ubin will be converted into a Wuhan virus quarantine facility, the Ministry of National Development (MND) announced on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
This is one of the many locations identified as a Government Quarantine Facility (GQF).
Before they are used to house quarantined individuals, the camps will undergo a "thorough cleaning process", in accordance with guidelines from the Ministry of Health.
The isolated nature of this camp eliminates the possibility of the spread of virus through person-to-person contact.
An MND spokesperson said the quarantine facilities are "part of the government's response plan for emergencies and may be activated from time to time".
Other hostels used as quarantine facilities
Three hostels, each from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Singapore Management University (SMU), will be used as quarantine facilities, it was announced on Monday.
Students, including foreigners, that are affected will be transferred to other hostels on campus, Education Minister Ong Ye Kung said at a press conference.
He also apologised to the students affected and said that "this is part of the national response".
