Hong Kong has announced new measures to combat the ongoing Wuhan virus.

Starting midnight, Jan. 27, Hong Kong plans to bar Hubei residents and those who've been to Hubei in the past 14 days from entering the city, until further notice.

According to Reuters, the rule does not apply to Hong Kong residents.

Hubei province has bore the brunt of the outbreak, with over 1,000 cases and 50 deaths.

Hong Kong's stance follows Taiwan and Macau's own ban on those from the Hubei province.

According to TaiwanNews, Taiwan has banned individuals from Hubei Province, while Chinese residents not from Hubei are banned from visiting Taiwan "for purposes including tourism, social and professional exchanges, and medical trips".

The Philippines has also banned flights to Wuhan, and repatriated over 400 tourists who had entered after the ban.

Hong Kong had earlier declared the outbreak an "emergency".

The move comes after mounting pressure from Hong Kong residents, with protesters even torching an estate that was reportedly planned to be used to quarantine potential cases.
