France confirms 3 cases of Wuhan coronavirus, 1st in Europe

The Wuhan coronavirus has now reached Europe, as France confirmed three cases on Jan. 25.

According to CNN, one of the patient, a 48-year-old man, is being treated in the southwestern city of Bordeaux.

France's Health Minister, Agnes Buzyn, said that the man came back on Jan. 22 from a trip to China, which included a stop in Wuhan.

He sought medical help from the charity SOS Medecins a day later.

Buzyn said via Reuters:

"He's been put in an isolated room so as to avoid any contact with the outside world. He's fine."

The other two patients are currently hospitalised in Paris.

41 deaths as of Jan. 25

France's announcement brings the total number of confirmed cases outside of China to 19, according to Chinese state media CGTN.

Other affected countries include Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, the United States and Nepal.

Meanwhile, China’s National Health Commission announced on Jan. 25 that the total number of confirmed cases in China has reached over 1,000.

The death toll has also increased to 41, up from 25 the previous day.

Singapore currently has three confirmed cases

On Jan. 23, Singapore confirmed its first case of the Wuhan virus.

The 66-year-old Chinese national is currently in a stable condition at Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

Two more confirmed cases were later announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Jan. 24.

One of them is a 53-year-old female Chinese national and the other is a 37-year-old male Chinese national.

All three confirmed cases in Singapore are Wuhan residents.
