Went to a spa in Beijing after work

According to Deng's Weibo post, the incident happened on Monday night, Dec. 13, when the 34-year-old decided to go for a massage and cupping therapy at a spa in Beijing after work.

Even though it was almost midnight when she arrived, she still went for the treatment as her body "could not take (the tiredness)", she wrote.

Unfortunately, her cupping therapy went wrong, and she was left with second-degree burns on her back and the top of her right arm, according to a picture she posted of a medical certificate issued by Beijing Jishuitan Hospital.

Will definitely have some scarring

Deng said whether or not her burn injuries leave scars behind will depend on how well she takes care of her wounds.

However, she was also told by the doctor that some areas with the "white burns" will definitely leave some scarring.

Deng advises her followers

In addition, Deng advised her followers on the following five steps to take should the same ordeal happen to them as well:

  1. Tie your long hair up (otherwise it's easy for your hair and face to get burnt)
  2. Stay calm (do not hope for the people surrounding you to be calm, you can deal with the problem as long as you are capable and have common sense)
  3. If the alcohol on your body catches fire, use a damp towel or cloth to cover the area immediately
  4. Douse your wounds with cool water as fast as possible (the doctor says this is the most effective, the areas where cool water did not touch all have blisters now)
  5. You must apply external medication for burns (the doctor says toothpaste and sesame oils do not work), and then go to the hospital

Deng's post was met with many well wishes from her fans, who expressed their sympathy for her injuries, and urged her to work less and take care of herself more.

Cupping therapy dismissed by western experts as pseudoscience

Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese medicine that is gaining popularity even among Hollywood celebrities, such as Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.

However, the alternative medicine has been dismissed by many western medical experts as pseudoscience.
