If you have no chill when it comes to Netflix, here's another on-demand streaming platform to look out for: Facebook.

What is Facebook Watch?

For those of you who don't already know, Facebook Watch has been available in Singapore since August 2018.

It produces original video content from scripted comedy and drama, to competition and reality series.

Facebook Watch is available internationally for free on mobile apps across iOS and Android, on desktop, laptop, and on TV apps.

Popular shows

To give you a glimpse of what it looks like, here are some of its globally popular shows:

1) Planet Warriors

'Planet Warriors' is a series that follows famous vlogger Nas Daily and his team on a journey around Asia.

They set out to document people who are making the earth a more sustainable place to live in for animals, humans and nature.

2) Sorry For Your Loss

Avengers star Elizabeth Olsen plays Leigh Shaw, a grieving widow struggling to make sense of the world in the wake of her late husband’s sudden death.

Hailed as one of the best shows of 2018 by numerous publications including The New York Times and Time, "Sorry for Your Loss" is a drama series that portrays pain, hope and humour all in one.

3) Huda Boss

Huda Kattan is a 34-year-old beauty blogger turned CEO of beauty brand Huda Beauty.

The reality show 'Huda Boss' follows Kattan's hectic life as she balances the blurred lines between family, a globally-successful business and her passion.

Local content

For those of you craving some local content, fret not.

Facebook Singapore and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have paired up to create Facebook Creator Lab Singapore— a programme to provide local emerging creators with the knowledge, skills and mentorship required to be a digital content creator.

On Dec. 3, IMDA and Facebook Singapore also announced the return of the second season of the programme at the inaugural 'Facebook Watch Presents' event.

Here are some homegrown creators who have benefitted from the programme and have produced their own original shows:

1) Our Grandfather Story (O+)

Our Grandfather Story (OGS) is a local digital video publisher dedicated to uncovering timeless and overlooked stories across Southeast Asia.

It has created the 'O+' series which seeks to explore and tell the stories behind everyday Singapore and its people.

Here's an example of one of their episodes:

2) RockStarArms

In her own show called 'Keeping It Real', trainer and athlete Natalie Dau, also known as RockstarArms, puts her skills to good use as she coaches, motivates and inspires individuals in their efforts to lead healthier lives.

3) The Travel Intern

The Travel Intern, a community of Singaporean storytellers and explorers, share their travel adventures through films and photographs in hopes of inspiring others.

    Applying for Facebook Creator Lab

    Anyone can produce their own shows too by applying for the Facebook Creator Lab programme.

    Applications is open from now till Jan. 31, 2020.

    Successful applicants will be notified by the end of February 2020.

    They will have access to training and workshops, to build better content and monetise on Facebook, and get the opportunity to grow their network by meeting other like-minded creators.

    Up to five creators will be selected, and will receive support to develop their content pilot.
