Just when you thought the brown sugar milk tea hype has died down, enter brown sugar glutinous rice balls also known as tangyuan.

Taiwanese bubble tea brand Truedan, also known as Jenjudan, has launched brown sugar glutinous rice balls on Dec. 4, 2019.

The twist to the traditional Chinese dessert comes just in time for the Winter Solstice Festival, which takes place on Dec. 22, 2019, a Chinese festival where observers eat tangyuan with their families as a symbol of reunion.

The glutinous rice balls, which contain a brown sugar liquid filling, can be eaten as it is, with crushed peanuts, or even with boba pearls and milk tea, if you must.

According to Instagram users who have tried the new dessert, the sweetness of the brown sugar wasn't overpowering, and the glutinous rice skin was slightly different from the original, as it is more chewy.

The brown sugar glutinous rice balls, which comes in a packet of 10, is selling at NT$59 (about S$2.65) at all FamilyMart stores in Taiwan.

Sadly, they're not available in Singapore yet, but if you're interested, you could always try your luck and put up a request on Airfrov, which a few have already done.
