2nd day of PMD's permanent footpath ban: Anger turns to "young punks" riding dangerously

A rotten apple spoils the bunch.

It is early days for Singapore's new footpath ban.

One of the groups particularly vocal about the ban have understandably been the delivery riders who use PMDs as their primary vehicles.

That anger has led to prolonged rants against the government's ban and surprisingly well-made posters.

But while the anger is still raw, some of that anger has turned to a group that appears to be lying low for the moment.

YPs, or young punks as they are colloquially known have, unfairly or not, been associated with the proliferation of PMDs.

That anger was seen in a video uploaded by Khairul Hadid, who recounted how he had witnessed a young man on a PMD nearly hitting an elderly man while speeding.

Here's a brief sample of what he had to say.

"Because of you guys, you guys, juvenile delinquents that misuse the PMD and e-scooter, you actually rob the livelihood of those people earning a living."

A post by Shaun Farhan Liner, apparently in response to the first series of posters, took aim squarely at the YP demographic.

One of the posters were based on a really recent incident as well.

While YP tend to refer to young punks, the defining characteristics associated with the term appears to have evolved to, in some sense, transcend age, almost like the popular insult "boomer".

Instead the term appears to apply to those who drive recklessly on PMDs, blast loud music with no concern for others around them, and have have little concern for the law.

For a quick summary:

Here's the video.
