So wholesome.

A couple invited a group of homeless people to their church wedding to join them in celebrating the occasion.

Originally wanted to hold the wedding in Chinatown

Abraham Yeo, 37, and Peng Cheng Yu, 24, decided to made this unconventional move as Yeo himself reaches out to the homeless in Singapore through a non-profit organisation he co-founded called Homeless Hearts of Singapore.

The couple initially intended to hold their wedding in Chinatown where the homeless usually congregate daily.

Peng said that the original idea was to "bring the wedding to where the people are". Unfortunately, the Chinatown venue was booked on their wedding date.

So, the couple decided to hold the wedding at Yio Chu Kang Chapel instead.

Create an inclusive wedding

Yeo and Peng decided to spend most of their money on a catered buffet and a carnival for the enjoyment of their guests.

As such, the bride kept her spending on her wedding gown and make-up to the minimum.

25 of their friends from Homeless Hearts attended, along with the couple's friends, close relatives and parents.

Yeo shared that these friends initially "felt quite embarrassed" for not having a suitable outfit for such an event and were hesitant to join despite his assurance.

Fortunately, their friends from church offered to pay for the guests’ wedding clothes and help them shop for the outfits to attend the wedding.

Yeo said, “It was such a sight during the wedding, the ‘uncle’ was looking all dapper and everyone was so well-dressed. You will never be able to tell one apart from the other.” wrote YMI.

In their attempt to ensure Malay-speaking friends felt included, the couple also chose Christian hymns that were sung in Bahasa Melayu during the solemnisation service.

In particular, the couple opted for long tables instead of round table seating for their guests so that everyone could eat together and mingle freely in a community setting.

Their parents and close relatives sat separately at four small round tables.
