Importer claims 'worms' floating around sausages in viral video was 'damage' from sausage surface

Either way, it doesn't look appetising.

A video showing what appears to be some contaminated uncooked sausages was posted to YouTube and Facebook recently.

Allegedly white worms floating around uncooked hotdogs

In the short clip, which was also uploaded on All Singapore Stuff, some sausages, purportedly from United States brand Valley Chef, are laid out on a plate of water.

The uncooked franks seem to have a weird mottled and bumpy texture, which the man behind the camera points a finger to.

The unidentified man then pours away the water and washes the plate, before adding more water.

He then points to what appears to be white worms floating around the sausages, saying in Chinese, "There it is again, oh my god".

Another man holds up the torn packaging of the sausages, clearly showing the Valley Chef brand. The expiry date on the packaging states Dec. 15, 2020.

In the background, another man can be heard asking if the sausages were bought in Malaysia, and a woman replies that they were purchased in Singapore.

The name "NTUC" is dropped several times in the video.

Claims white material is not worms

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has since responded to the video through a Facebook post.

SFA stated that they were aware of the circulating video, and urged people with more information on the video, or who had faced similar issues, to provide feedback online.

A spokesperson from the Dah Chong Hong Holdings Ltd, the importer of Valley Chef sausages was adamant that it was not from their brand.

The spokesperson told Stomp that they had already investigated the issue as "the health and safety of our customers is our highest priority".

Instead of white worms, as the original poster had claimed, the spokesperson insisted that the "material floating in the water is not "worms", but damage from the surface of the hot dog that is washing away under the water."

It was believed that this was "likely the result of storage at an improper temperature and seems to be an isolated incident".

The spokesperson continued that concerned customers could return previously-purchased products to the original retailer.

The production of Valley Chef sausages are reportedly overseen by United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
