2nd signing store in Penang
On Nov. 19, Starbucks Malaysia announced the opening of its second signing store in Penang on Facebook:
"Our second Signing store in Penang is officially in motion and brewing! Penangites share the good news and enjoy a unique experience of our Starbucks Signing Store. ? #StarbucksSigningStore #Penang"
The Starbucks store sign is spelled out in American sign language (ASL), and has attached a few photos of their employees at the new store.
Partnered with Penang Deaf Association
The three-storey, 4,600 sq. ft. store is the fourth of its kind in the world, with the other three stores located in Kuala Lumpur, Washington D.C. and Guangzhou.

According to Starbucks Stories Asia, the global coffee chain's signing stores are committed to providing employment opportunities to deaf and hard of hearing employees.
Located in the heart of Penang's deaf community, the Penang store also serves as a venue for the deaf community to host sign language workshops and career development seminars.
In particular, Starbucks has partnered with the Penang Deaf Association to support the professional training and development of the store's seven hearing employees.
These include internship opportunities and sign language classes.
Design of store and exclusive merchandise
The store has been installed with visual alarms, digital trays and point-of-sale systems to meet the needs of both deaf as well as hard of hearing employees and customers.
The store also has a mural wall created by local deaf artist Lim Anuar, and an exclusive signing store merchandise such as giftcards and keychains.
