S’porean man, 41, admits to having sex with stepdaughter, 15, in multistorey car park
The prosecution called the act 'the greatest form of intrusion'.
When his stepdaughter asked him to pick her up from school and send her home, a 41-year-old Singaporean man decided to drive her to a multi-storey car park instead.
He then had sex with the 15-year-old girl there, before they were caught in the act by a police officer.
According to The Straits Times on Nov. 11, 2019, the man pleaded guilty to one count of having sex with a minor.
A gag order has been placed on the identity of the man and his stepdaughter, to protect the victim’s identity.
Wanted to accompany her
Court documents showed that the offender was married to the victim’s mother.
Together with the victim, her siblings and the man’s own children, they had all been living at the same residence for more than a year.
On Jan. 25, 2019, the victim had asked her stepfather — who she referred to as “Uncle” — to pick her up from school at about 12:30pm.
This was so that she could rest before returning to school for co-curricular activities at 3pm.
However, instead of taking her home to rest, the man picked the girl up and took her to a multistorey car park in Admiralty Drive.
He then asked her to rest at the rear passenger seat of the car.
The man followed her to the rear of the car as “he wanted to accompany her”.
There, the victim began lying on the man’s body, before they started hugging and kissing each other.
According to court documents, the man also touched the victim on her right thigh, causing her to feel sexually aroused.
She then sat on top of him and they began having unprotected sexual intercourse.
Caught in the act
They eventually stopped after spotting a police officer, who saw that the victim was undressed.
The man and the victim who hastily separated and dressed, initially denied having sex in the car when approached by the police officer.
After further investigation, both the man and his stepdaughter admitted to the act.
The offender stated that he initially treated the victim as his stepdaughter, but as time went by, “they gradually became closer and often texted each other”.
Their relationship soon turned sexual and the incident was actually the second time they had performed the act in the said multistorey car park.
“Greatest form of intrusion”
In court, Deputy Public Prosecutor Derek Ee argued for a jail term of three years.
He highlighted that the man had abused the trust shown in him by his stepdaughter and exploited her.
“This is the greatest form of intrusion,” said Ee, referring to the unprotected penetrative acts that the man had committed.
According to The Straits Times, the man was offered bail of S$15,000.
His mitigation and sentencing will take place on Dec. 23.
For having sex with the minor, he can be jailed for up to 10 years and fined.
