On Nov. 10, Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp) launched a mobile application called "ezi" to provide more convenience for Singaporeans to recycle.
Mobile app to make recycling easier
Sembcorp is the first government-contracted public waste collector company to launch such a mobile application to recover more recyclables in Singapore and to raise awareness on recycling.
The app was launched at Kampung Admiralty by Senior Minister of State, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Amy Khor.
Koh Chiap Khiong, head of Singapore, Southeast Asia & China of the energy wing, said that the app is a testament to the company's effort in "developing innovative solutions to create a sustainable future".
Doorstep collection of recyclables
The app includes information on how to recycle different materials such as paper, plastic metal and clothes.
There is also an option for users to book an appointment for Sembcorp to show up at residents' doorstep to collect recyclables from their houses.
Residents will only have to ensure the recyclables are clean and packed for the collection.
This service will prevent any contamination of your recyclables, which has been a problem for commingled recycling bins in the neighbourhoods.
It appears that those who recycle will also receive rewards for their recycling efforts.
Its doorstep collection feature will first be rolled out to households with postal codes starting with 73 in Woodlands.
Sembcorp plans to progressively roll out its recycling services to other residential areas by the end of 2020.
You can now download the app on Google Play or Apple store.
