After 36 years, women's clothing store First Lady is closing down their outlet located on the first floor of Tanjong Katong Complex (TKC).

Following the closure of this outlet, First Lady will only have one boutique left in Singapore, located on the second floor of the same mall.

Owned by Salleh Marican

The fashion brand is part of Second Chance Properties Ltd (SCP), whose chief executive officer is former 2017 presidential candidate Salleh Marican.

Gold jewellery brand Golden Chance, and men's fashion brand Second Chance, is also part of SCP.

According to a report by Berita Harian, they decided to close the outlet because of lower demand following the rising trend of online shopping.

He said: "The sales for First Lady has been declining almost every year. Instead of facing further decline in sales, I think it's better for me to cease the operations on the first floor. Furthermore, the lease has to be renewed once it ends on Dec. 31."

Declining sales

First Lady earned more than S$5,000,000 per annum in better days.

Last year, however, this went down to just S$1,800,000.

Recently, SCP announced that their net profit for the past financial year was S$4,750,000.

This is a 40 per cent decrease compared to the previous year, where the net profit was apparently S$7,910,000.

Will retain 5 staff

Following the closure of the outlet, the company will retain five staff from their Tanjong Katong outlet, while four others will have their employment terminated.

The company is currently holding a sale to finish their remaining wares at First Lady.

Earlier this year, it was reported that First Lady also closed down all of its stores in Malaysia except for one megastore in Kuala Lumpur.
