S'poreans recreate iconic 1963 water rationing queues with PMDs in 2019

Some things never change, queuing is one of them.

A snaking long queue of people formed at Block 547 Woodlands Drive 16 on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2019.

The queue comprised of owners with their non-compliant e-scooters, who were waiting in line to dispose of their devices and collect a S$100 incentive.

They have until the end of the year to do so.

The line started at the disposal point located next to a multi-storey car park.

It extended to the void deck of Block 547.

A lorry was filled with non-UL2272-certified e-scooters that had been given up for some cash back.

The disposal point was set up from 5pm to 9pm on Thursday.

It was arranged for the convenience of residents who otherwise might not dispose of the devices properly.

Images of residents queuing up in the estate as a community have drawn comparisons with water rationing exercises carried out in Singapore in 1963:

Notice of the early disposal incentive was publicised by the Land Transport Authority in September and extended by a month.

Devastating fires at home have been linked to the devices.

Headed for the scrapyard

And where do these e-scooters end up?

At the scrapyard.

Various photos taken from HDB estates around Singapore in mid-November show the extent of the collection:
