According to a press release from the Land Transport Authority (LTA), commuters can pay for public transport rides with NETS Tap contactless payment from Nov. 16.

What's new

Commuters can also link their NETS Tap to Transitlink's SimplyGo account to track their travel expenses and trip history.

Participating banks include DBS/POSB, OCBC and UOB, where cards with the NETS Contactless logo can now be used.

Do note that NETS Tap is currently not supported by any mobile devices for payment in transit, however.

If you have a child who has a Smart Buddy Wearable device with the NETS contactless function, do note that the device is not optimised for transit payment, and the user will end up paying adult fares instead.

NETS is the latest payment method to come on board after Mastercard and Visa were accepted as a form of contactless payment for public transport in Singapore via the SimplyGo scheme.

SimplyGo was launched in April this year, enabling commuters to use their contactless cards or mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Fitbit Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay and Singtel Dash on public transport.

One does not need to pre-register their cards for public transport rides and charges will be reflected in the commuter's bills, similar to that of retail transactions.

More than 350,000 trips on the public transport network are paid with SimplyGo everyday.
