Happy days, mate.

A man at the Melbourne Cup horse races turned out to be one of the biggest winners of the day -- right after his date dumped him.

Kenny, a carpenter, told SEN Radio that he was on a date at the Melbourne Cup when he found out that he had won S$742,000 (A$793,000) with a S$10 (A$10) bet.

Didn't know about winnings until date dumped him

According to 7News, Kenny was in a restaurant with his high school friend from Gold Coast, when she told him that it wasn't working out.

She said to him:

"Listen, Kenny, I can't really feel it. This is not gonna go anywhere. I've got to get the five o'clock train."

He took it pretty well, replying her:

"Ah well, yeah, no worries, thanks for being honest."

Kenny opened up his betting account on his phone to check, and that was when it hit him.

The punter told the Australian radio that he started screaming and gasping when he saw the numbers, with everyone in the restaurant staring at him.

He recalled that his date told him to sit down, and told him he was embarrassing her, having no clue about his sudden windfall.

Kenny then told her to look at his account, and she started screaming, he added, laughing.

According to him, she stuck around for a while more, ringing her friends and father up, until he sent her packing home.

He quoted her:

"Story of my life, out on a date with a guy I used to go to school with on the Gold Coast, I just told him I want nothing to do with him and he wins a million dollars."

Using new-found fortune to buy a property

According to the punter, he plans to keep working in his job in Melbourne, but said that he'll splurge a bit on himself.

He also plans on using the money to buy a property in Gold Coast, where he studied before moving to Melbourne for work:

"I went back to the Crown after the date got on the train, had a couple of drinks, took a taxi home. I haven’t spent a cent."

"I'm gonna buy a house on the Gold Coast and happy days."
